Beat the bloat while still having a good time this Christmas 🎄

As the festive season fast approaches, we find ourselves going to lots of events and Christmas parties, with family, colleagues or friends.
And we also start to indulge more at home as the winter nights set in.
We eat lots of rich food and it's a lovely time... But our body doesn't always know how to react.

Our top five tips on how to beat the bloat, while still having a good time!

1. If you're not sure what food will be at event, eat before or bring snacks

Of course when it comes to family dinners, it might be more likely that you'll find something especially for you, but with work and social events, it might just be that your dietary requirements have been overlooked, in which case it's always good to come bearing snacks! 

Or to take the worry out of what's on offer, eat before attending the event, so you can focus on mingling, and you won't need to keep eyeing that cheese pizza you know won't be good for your lactose allergy or something else that might cause a flare up...

2. Chew food properly 

For our digestive system to work properly, chewing is a must. I know it's easy to forget to chew when you're chatting up a friend and just want to finish your food quickly, but trust me, your gut will thank you later!

Research suggests that you should chew your food up to 30 times before swallowing, but with softer foods you can get away with 10.

Chewing ensures that food gets digested correctly, and this prevents bloating. Beat that bloat one bite at a time!

3. Don't forget to hydrate with plenty of water!

I know it's easy to forget to hydrate when you're jumping in between conversations at a party, or too enamoured by all the festive chocolates, but it's so important to keep drinking that water, your gut will thank you for it!

Water also can help keep hangovers at bay!

One way to ensure you get your recommended daily intake of water, is to have a timed reminder on your phone, or keep a big water bottle with you everywhere you go.

That might not be easy at an event so at the very least, make your first and last drink at the event a water - you won't regret it!

4. Relax and enjoy it - if you're concerned or feel guilty then it's not worth it!

We just want to stress the importance of listening to your body.

And if your body is overly stressed, let yourself relax and just enjoy the holiday season!

If you plan to indulge in all the lovely things on offer, there's no point feeling guilt - if you're gonna do it, enjoy it.
